14-DAY TOUR FROM MÉXICO CITY TO CANCÚN
Aztecs & MayaTRAVELOGUE Day 1: México City Arrival in México City and transfer to your hotel. Day 2: México City In the morning you visit the historic center of México City. Visit the Zocalo, the main square of the city, which covers the remains of the former square built by Tenochtitlan. Other attractions include the largest church of the continent, the National Palace and the Anthropological Museum. Day 3: México City - Guadalupe - Teotihuacán - México City Travel to the Guadalupe Basilica, Latin America‘s most important pilgrimage site. After your visit we travel to the largest excavated ruin complex in Latin America, Teotihuacán. Here you visit the Sun and Moon Pyramid as well as the Quetzalcóatl Temple. Day 4: México City - Cuernavaca - Taxco - México City Travel to Cuernavaca, the city of “eternal spring”, built on the terraces that cling to the hillside. Then you continue to Taxco, the silver capital of the world. Taxco is charming and undoubtedly one of the prettiest cities in México. Day 5: México City - Villahermosa - Palenque Transfer from your hotel to the airport for your flight to Villahermosa. After arrival you visit the open-air museum of La Venta and then travel to Palenque. Day 6: Palenque Visit the mystical ruins of Palenque, once the center of the empire of legendary ruler Pakal. Climb the 67 steps to the top of the Temple of Inscriptions, the fi nal resting place of Pakal‘s tomb. The afternoon is free to explore on your own. Day 7: Palenque - Agua Azul - Palenque Today you visit the Agua Azul waterfalls and lagoon. A small trail leads you across bridges and walkways through magical landscape along the rapids. Cool off with a refreshing swim in the cool brook. Day 8: Palenque - Yaxchilán - Flores Travel overland to the Usumacinta River which forms the natural border between Guatemala and México. From here you continue by boat to the remote and mysterious Maya monument of Yaxchilán. Tucked away in a bend on the river in the middle of the rainforest, this site features several well-preserved temples, carved stones monuments and walls. Continue to Flores. Day 9: Flores - Tikal - Flores Enjoy a comprehensive tour of Tikal, the most monumental Maya site and one of the most impressive cities built during the Maya empire. The site is the most visited monument in all of Guatemala. But because the city is so big and the temples are huge and surrounded by dense rainforest, it feels like you have the place all to yourself. Take in the splendid Maya architecture and the amazing natural surroundings. Visit the Morley Museum. In the afternoon you return to Flores. Day 10: Flores - Cancún Transfer to the airport. Flight from Flores to Cancún. Transfer to your city hotel. The afternoon is free to explore this vibrant and lively resort town. Day 11: Cancún - Chichén Itzá - Uxmal Visit the legendary archeological site of Chichén Itzá and its many impressive buildings, such as the Kukulkan Pyramid, the Observatory and temples. In the afternoon you continue on to Uxmal. In the evening you attend a magical outdoor sound and light show. Day 12: Uxmal - Kabah - Celestún - Mérida Guided tour of the mystical Maya monuments in Uxmal. Highlight is the steep Pyramid of the Fortune Teller. Continue along the Puuc road, where you will discover another witness to the long lost Maya culture: Kabah, with ist unique temple dedicated to Rain God Chaak. In the afternoon you arrive in the fi shing village of Celestún where you set out on a boat tour of the lagoon, home to large colonies of pink Flamingos. Today’s drive ends in Mérida. Day 13: Mérida - Cancún In the morning you enjoy a sightseeing tour of the historic colonial center of Mérida. Visit the governor’s palace and the Montejo palace, the oldest cathedral of the Yucatán, and the lively and colorful local street market. In the afternoon we return to Cancún. Short stopover in Valladolid and an opportunity to dive into the underworld of the Mayas with a refreshing swim in the lagoon of Dzitnup, a limestone cave. Overnight in Cancún. Day 14: Cancún Transfer to the airport.
