18-DAY TOUR FROM RIO DE JANEIRO TO BOGOTÁ
Extraordinary South AmericaTRAVELOGUE Day 1, Sunday: Rio de Janeiro Your local tour guide will meet you at the airport, Transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore on your own. Day 2, Monday: Rio de Janeiro Full-day tour of Rio de Janeiro, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Visit the Sugar Loaf and the Corcovado, Rio’s landmark monuments. Rio de Janeiro enchants visitors with its beauty and the contagious energy and passion of the Cariocas. Day 3, Tuesday: Rio de Janeiro - Foz do Iguaçú After breakfast transfer to the airport. Flight from Rio de Janeiro to Foz do Iguaçu. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. Day 4, Wednesday: Foz do Iguaçú Today you visit the spectacular Iguaçu falls on both the Brazilian and the Argentinean side. Day 5, Thursday: Foz do Iguaçú - La Paz Early in the morning you fly from Iguaçu via São Paulo and Santa Cruz to La Paz. Arrival in La Paz and transfer to your hotel. Day 6, Friday: La Paz Sightseeing tour of this city full of contrasts. La Paz offers a mix of colonial history and modern urban life. Next you visit the Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon), a surreal moon-like landscape with unique rock formations. Day 7, Saturday: La Paz - Puno Travel from La Paz to Lake Titicaca. Board a hydrofoil and sail across the lake to the Island of the Sun and the Island of the Moon. Continue via Copacabana to Puno. Overnight stay at Lake Titicaca at an elevation of 13,100 ft. Day 8, Sunday: Lake Titicaca Morning boat tour to the floating reed islands of the Uro Indians. In the afternoon you visit the ruins of the burial towers in Sillustani. Day 9, Monday: Puno - Cuzco Travel by Andes train to Cuzco. This journey takes you through some impressive Andes mountain scenery. Lunch included. Day 10, Tuesday: Cuzco Half-day tour of the highlights of the city, including the Plaza de Armas, the cathedral, the Santo Domingo convent and the nearby Inca ruins of Sacsayhuaman, from where you enjoy a fabulous view of Cuzco. Day 11, Wednesday: Cuzco Day tour to Machu Picchu. You leave Cuzco early in the morning and travel by narrow gauge train through the spectacular Urubamba valley. After a three-hour ride you reach Machu Picchu. Extensive guided tour of the Inca ruins. Lunch included. Day 12, Thursday: Cuzco Day tour to visit the famous Indian Indian market at Pisac. After a typical regional meal you continue to Ollantaytambo to tour the impressive Inca fortress. Here you can also observe the fascinating irrigation system that the Incas developed to farm the terraces on the steep hillsides. Day 13, Friday: Cuzco - Lima Flight to Lima and tour of the capital. Visit the Plaza San Martin, the Plaza de Armas, the government palace, the Gold Museum and a part of modern Lima in the neighborhood of Miraflores. Day 14, Saturday: Lima - Iquitos Morning flight from Lima to Iquitos. Transfer to the harbor to board the M/V Aparaima for your journey downstream towards Leticia. Days 15-16, Sunday-Monday: Cruise On the cruise you will enjoy a variety of excursions in the Amazon rainforest such as bird watching, a visit to an Indian village, jungle walks with an expert guide, night time expeditions to observe nocturnal animals, piranha fishing and caiman spotting. Day 17, Tuesday: Leticia - Bogotá Upon arrival of the ship transfer to the airport for your flight from Leticia to Bogotá. Transfer to your hotel. Day 18, Wednesday: Bogotá Half-day city tour of the Colombian capital. In the afternoon transfer to the airport. The boat on the Amazon cruise is a simple mid-class category.
