20-DAY TOUR FROM LIMA TO GUAYAQUIL
Between the Andes and the PacificTRAVELOGUE Day 1, Saturday: Lima Upon arrival you will be met by your local tour guide and taken to a centrally located hotel. Day 2, Sunday: Lima City tour of the Peruvian capital, including a visit to the most important attractions, such as the Plaza de Armas and the Gold Museum. The afternoon is free to explore on your own. Day 3, Monday: Lima - Arequipa Transfer to the airport for your flight to the "white city“ of Arequipa. The rest of the day is free to explore on your own. Day 4, Tuesday: Arequipa City tour of one of the most beautiful cities of Perú. The afternoon is free to explore on your own. Day 5, Wednesday: Arequipa - Puno Flight from Arequipa to Juliaca, near Lake Titicaca. On the way to your hotel, located right on Lake Titicaca, you will visit the ruins of the Sillustani burial towers. Day 6, Thursday: Puno Today we will visit the famous floating reed islands of the Uros people and Taquile Island with its fascinating local culture. Return to Puno. Day 7, Friday: Puno - Cuzco Today's 10-hour journey takes you across the Peruvian Andes to the city of Cuzco. Upon arrival you will be welcomed by a new tour guide who will take you to your hotel. Day 8, Saturday: Cuzco Admire Cuzco’s beautiful colonial architecture on a city tour. Visit the Plaza de Armas and the 16th century cathedral, the Jesuit church La Compania and the Inca ruins at Sacsayhuaman, an impressive fortress with breathtaking views of the Andes high valley. Day 9, Sunday: Cuzco - Machu Picchu Train ride through the Urubamba valley to the Inca city of Machu Picchu, one of the absolute highlights of South America. Extensive viewing and guided tour of the ruins and transfer to your hotel. Day 10, Monday: Machu Picchu - Cuzco In the morning you are free to explore at your leisure. If you feel energetic you can take the trail from Machu Picchu and hike up to Huayna Picchu Mountain. From the almost 10,000 feet high peak you enjoy sweeping views over Machu Picchu and the surrounding region. Return to Cuzco by train. Day 11, Tuesday: Cuzco - Quito Flight from Cuzco via Lima to Quito. Visit the capital of Ecuador. The city’s Indian atmosphere and wellpreserved colonial architecture have earned it a UNESCO world heritage site designation. Visit the Plaza de Independencia with the government palace, the famous La Compania and San Francisco church and the Panecillo hill. Day 12, Wednesday: Cotopaxi National Park - La Cienega Today you visit Cotopaxi National Park. The almost 20,000 feet high Cotopaxi volcano is the highest active volcano in the world. Visit the Laguna Limpiopungo and enjoy several short hikes with fantastic views of Cotopaxi. Lunch included. Next we travel to the 300-year old colonial Hacienda La Cienega where we will spend the night. Dinner included. Day 13, Thursday: Chimborazo - Riobamba Travel from Hacienda La Cienega to Ecuador's highest mountain, Chimborazo (20,700 ft). Along the way you can observe llamas, vicuñas and alpacas. Lunch included. Next you continue to Riobamba. Dinner and accommodations in an elegant country house, the Hosteria Abraspungo. Day 14, Friday: Riobamba - Ingapirca - Cuenca After breakfast you are transferred to the train station to begin the fascinating train ride through the Andes. This ride takes you on the steepest railroad in the world, the so called “Devil’s Nose". Next you continue your journey by bus from Alausi to Cuenca. Along the way you visit the famous Ingapirca ruins. Lunch and dinner included. Day 15, Saturday: Cuenca - Guayaquil In the morning you enjoy a city tour of the historic colonial town Cuenca, with its many churches, craft stores and the famous flower market. In the afternoon transfer to the airport for your flight to Guayaquil. Day 16, Sunday: Guayaquil - Galápagos Transfer to the airport for your flight from Guayaquil to the Galápagos Islands. Transfer to the harbor to begin your 4-day cruise. Day 16-19, Sunday-Wednesday: Galápagos Islands Your boat features a double cabin with a private bathroom. The crew and an experienced nature guide will take good care of you on this cruise and accompany you on a variety of interesting excursions. Enjoy this unique nature paradise! Day 19, Wednesday: Galápagos - Guayaquil In the morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Guayaquil. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. Day 20, Thursday: Guayaquil Transfer to the airport for your return flight. The Galápagos itinerary may be subject to change because of weather or sea conditions, or vary according to the national park destinations.
