18-DAY TOUR FROM QUITO TO LIMA

Along the Pacific Ocean

On this tour you explore the most beautiful cities and regions in Ecuador and Peru. Your trip begins in Quito – the capital of Ecuador –, followed by a visit to the most famous hot springs of this country, before you travel to the Amazon jungle. Then the trip continues along the Pan-American Highway to the southern cultural capital of Cuenca and the archeological sites in northern Peru. Complete this trip with a visit to the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu and the vibrant metropolis of Lima.
TRAVELOGUE
 
Day 1: Quito 
Late evening arrival in Quito. Transfer to your hotel. 
 
Day 2: Quito 
After breakfast you set off on a city tour for your first impressions of the diverse capital of Ecuador. After a tour of Quito you travel north to visit the Equator monument. In the afternoon we return to Quito. 
 
Day 3: Quito - Papallacta - Amazon basin 
In the morning you travel over the Andes mountain pass (13,300 ft) to Papallacta. This is where the most beautiful hot springs of Ecuador are located. Enjoy a relaxing soak at an elevation of 12,100 ft. From Punta Ahuano, a small village on the northern shore of the Río Napo, you continue by canoe into the rainforest to La Casa del Suizo Lodge. Late afternoon arrival. Dinner included. 
 
Day 4: Amazon basin 
After breakfast you set out on a guided nature walk through the rainforest to observe the many bird species and medicinal plants. By canoe you travel downstream on the Rio Napo and further along the Arajuno River. Observe several monkey species and other rainforest animals at the AmaZOOnico wildlife rehab center. Lunch and dinner included. 
 
Day 5:Amazon basin - Baños 
After breakfast you get ready to return to the Andes. Arrival in Baños by early afternoon. This small and friendly city is located at the foot of the active Tungurahua volcano. Lunch. Visit the town's beautiful main square and famous church. In the afternoon unwind with a soak in the local the hot springs. 
 
Day 6: Baños - Cuenca 
Travel across the high plateau along the impressive mountain massif of Chimborazo (20,700 ft) to Riobamba. From here we dip south, arriving in Cuenca by later afternoon. 
 
Day 7: Cuenca 
The city of Cuenca in the south of Ecuador is often considered the prettiest colonial town in South America. A city tour introduces you to the colonial historic center with its many churches, lovely squares and narrow streets packed with beautifully restored colonial houses. Visit the famous flower market and a workshop where the internationally renowned panama hats are made. 
 
Day 8: Cuenca - Tumbes - Punta Sal - Mancora 
Today you cross the border into Peru. Early in the morning we drive south via Machala to Huaquillas. After we complete the border crossing, we continue from Tumbes along the Peruvian coastal road to Punta Sal near Mancora. 
 
Day 9: Mancora - Chiclayo 
Travel from Mancora to Chiclayo. Along the way you visit the city of Piura and its attractions. Continue to Chiclayo. 
 
Day 10: Chiclayo 
Today you visit the impressive adobe pyramids at Tucumé, followed by a visit to the Royal Tomb Museum. 
 
Day 11: Chiclayo - Trujillo 
Travel from Chiclayo to Trujillo. Along the way you visit the archeological site El Brujo, an ancient ceremonial temple of the Mochica civilization. Then we continue to Trujillo, our final destination for today. City tour to explore this colonial town. 
 
Day 12: Trujillo 
Visit the Sun and Moon temples (Huacas). We also tour the sights at Huanchaco and the large ruin complex Chan Chan, built entirely out of clay bricks. Overnight stay in Trujillo. 
 
Day 13: Trujillo - Lima 
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima, the capital of Peru. Arrival and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore on your own. 
 
Day 14:Lima - Caral - Lima 
In the morning you drive approx. 125 miles north to Caral, the oldest city on the American continent. This only recently discovered archeological site is truly captivating. Return to Lima by late afternoon. 
 
Day 15: Lima - Cuzco 
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Cuzco. In the afternoon you enjoy a city tour of Cuzco and visit the nearby ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Tambomachay, Puka-Pukara and Q’enqo. 
 
Day 16: Cuzco -Machu Picchu - Cuzco 
Full-day excursion by train to the large ruin complex at Machu Picchu, first discovered in 1911. Lunch included. Return to Cuczo in the early evening. 
 
Day 17: Cuzco - Lima 
Transfer to the airport for your early afternoon flight back to Lima. Overnight stay at a hotel near the airport. 
 
Day 18: Lima 
Transfer to the airport for your return flight.
