Panamá

Important and interesting information about countries - summarized for you:
BEST TIME TO TRAVEL • CLIMATE • DRESS

Panama has a tropical and humid climate. The average temperature along the coast and in the lowlands ranges from 80 to 86°F. In the mountains you will find milder spring-like weather. The best time to visit Panama is from December until April. The rainy season is from May until November, with short and heavy showers, usually in the afternoons. Make sure that your luggage includes light cotton and linen clothing as well as a jacket or sweater for cool evenings or air-conditioned rooms and busses. Don’t forget to bring sturdy footwear and protection against the sun, mosquitoes and rain on tours and excursions.

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS • VACCINATIONS • HEALTH ISSUES

Each traveler is personally responsible for his/her travel documents (passport, visa) and health precautions (such as vaccinations). For more information you can check with the local consulate, a travel clinic or your family doctor. You can also check online for information at http://www.cdc.gov/travel/index.htm, www.who.org or http://www.state.gov/travelandbusiness/ .

MONEY • ADDITIONAL COSTS • TIPS

Currency: Balboa. US$1 = 0.96 Balboa (Exchange rate: October 2005). We recommend taking some US dollars in cash as well as a bank card with the Maestro logo. International credit cards are widely accepted. It is customary to leave a 10% service fee in restaurants. This is often already added to the bill. Luggage carriers receive a tip of US$0.50 per bag. Taxi drivers don’t expect a tip.
