12-DAY TOUR FROM/TO SAN JOSÉ
Costa Rica’s Miracle of NatureTRAVELOGUE Day 1: San José Arrival and transfer to your centrally located hotel. Day 2: San José -Poás Volcano - Boca Tapada After breakfast you travel to the Poás Volcano for a walk to the main crater, one of the largest in the world. Then you travel further north towards Boca Tapada to the Laguna del Lagarto Lodge. Dinner and overnight stay. Day 3: Boca Tapada Today you explore the area around the lodge and undertake a guided rainforest walk. The afternoon is free to explore on your own. Relax at the lodge or take out one of the kayaks and paddle quietly through the lagoons, observing birds and other animals. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge. Day 4: Boca Tapada - La Fortuna Travel from Boca Tapada via Aguas Zarcas to La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano. Spend a relaxing evening in the hotel hot springs, overlooking the still active volcano. Day 5: La Fortuna/Arenal Volcano - Rincón de la Vieja National Park A walk through the solidified lava fields takes you close to the volcano and offers fabulous views of Lake Arenal and the picturesque region. In the afternoon you travel further north to Rincón de la Vieja Volcano. Day 6: Rincón de la Vieja National Park Visit Rincón de la Vieja National Park. Discover a beautiful waterfall and see the many signs of volcanic activity, such as bubbling mud pits, geysers and fumaroles. The afternoon is free to explore on your own. The lodge offers a variety of outdoor activities, such as a visit to a therapeutic mud bath, canyoning or canoeing. Day 7: Rincón de la Vieja National Park - Monteverde Our final destination today is Monteverde. Before reaching Monteverde you enjoy a 2-hour boat tour on the Bebedero River. With luck you can spot howler monkeys, iguanas and crocodiles. You are guaranteed to see a large number of different bird species and learn more about the flora of the mangrove forest. After the boat tour we continue to Monteverde. The last few miles are along a rugged unpaved road. Day 8: Monteverde In the morning you visit the Santa Elena Reserve in Monteverde. The spectacular cloud forest boasts an incredible biodiversity of birds and the trees in this moist environment are overgrown with moss, ferns, bromeliads and orchids. In the afternoon you explore the flora and fauna from a different perspective. During a canopy tour you use a system of suspension bridges high up in the trees to learn more about the complicated ecosystem of the rainforest. Day 9: Monteverde - Quepos/Manuel Antonio National Park Travel across the Pan-American Highway to Quepos to the Pacific coast. Your hotel Karahe lies directly on a beautiful beach. Day 10: Quepos/Manuel Antonio National Park Visit the famous Manuel Antonio National Park. The dense vegetation comes right down to the gorgeous beaches and a system of hiking trails allows you to explore the rainforest. You can often see coatis, armadillos and other small mammals, as well as birds and squirrel monkeys. The afternoon is free to explore on your own. Enjoy the beautiful beaches in or near the National Park. Day 11: Quepos/Manuel Antonio National Park - San José Extend your stay with one or more days or transfer back to San José. Day 12: San José Transfer from your hotel to the airport for your return flight.
