The Metropolises of South America

Get to know the most famous metropolises of South America on this trip: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s most beautiful city fuelled by the Samba beat and Buenos Aires, the birthplace of Tango, set on the Rio de la Plata. For an overwhelming experience of a different kind visit the impressive Iguaçú Waterfalls that straddle the border between the countries.
TRAVELOGUE
 
Day 1: Rio de Janeiro 
Arrival in Rio de Janeiro. Transfer from the airport to your hotel. 
 
Day 2: Rio de Janeiro 
Today is reserved for a tour of Rio’s best known “mountains”, the Corcovado (2.300 ft) and the Sugar Loaf (1.290 ft). Travel to the top of the Corcovado by cogwheel train. The trip through the green and tropical landscape makes you forget that you are in the middle of a metropolis of 7 million people. At the foot of the 125 ft tall statue of Christ you can take in the impressive views of the city. You can see Flamengo, Botafogo, Copacabana, Ipanema, the Lagoon and beyond. You will also have fabulous views of the Sugar Loaf, which you will visit later in the day for a very different perspective of the city. For lunch we visit an excellent barbecue restaurant so that you will be reenergized for your afternoon tour by cable car to the top of the Sugar Loaf, Rio’s most important landmark. From the top you can take in sweeping views over the ocean and the bay. 
 
Day 3: Rio de Janeiro 
A free day to spend at your leisure. 
 
Day 4: Rio de Janeiro - Foz do Iguaçu 
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Foz do Iguaçu. Arrival and transfer to your hotel. The name “Iguaçu” means “Big Water”, the name given by the local Indians to this breathtaking display of nature. 
 
Day 5: Foz do Iguaçú 
In the morning you visit the waterfalls an the Brazilian side where more than 200 cascades form an impressive wall of water. Then, for a differene perspective, you visit the waterfall from the Argentinean side. 
 
Day 6: Foz do Iguaçú - Buenos Aires 
Transfer to the airport on the Argentinean or on the Paraguayan side. Flight to Buenos Aires. Arrival and transfer from the airport to the hotel. 
 
Day 7: Buenos Aires 
City tour of Buenos Aires. Includes a visit to the historic city hall, the Plaza de Mayo, the port neighborhood of La Boa and the Recoleta Cemetery with Evita Peron‘s grave. In the evening you visit a famous Tango hall for dinner and a show. 
 
Day 8: Buenos Aires 
A free day to spend at your leisure. 
 
Day 9: Buenos Aires 
Transfer to the airport for your return flight.
